Art is my passion! I love to teach art. I love to talk about art and, most of all, I love to make art - especially art that makes people smile. My focus is on fused glass art that is functional including jewelry, plates, trays, and other items for the home.
During the day I teach high school art at Casa Roble High in Orangevale. There I teach drawing and painting as well as mosaic art, glass art, altered art and any other art form that will hopefully spark a teenager’s interest. I received my artistic training at the University of Utah where I earned a BFA in art with an emphasis in graphic design. I became involved in fused glass in the late 1990’s and have participated in numerous glass workshops in the region in addition to also teaching the medium.
The process for fusing glass involves carefully cutting and layering numerous pieces of glass. Once the glass is assembled it is put into a kiln where it is slowly heated to approximately 1500 degrees. The process is very controlled and is monitored by a computer to ensure that the glass does not break from the shock of the change in temperature and that it is also annealed. This requires about eighteen hours. This end result is a solid single piece of glass that is now fused together. However, is only a small portion of the process as each piece requires numerous trips through the kiln as well as hours of cutting and grinding to ensure that it meets my design and construction standards.
I am passionate about creating fused glass. I love creating one-of-a-kind jewelry and gifts for the home. My work is completely unique. None of it is mass produced or copied. I am working on a series of images that are focusing on animals. I live on a small ranch and love watching my dogs and cats and goofy chickens. It is such a creative challenge to capture their attitude in glass.
I am available for creating portraits in glass of a special pet or other animal friend. I would enjoy discussing your needs.
