DEE TSCHIDA
Artist’s Statement

My creativity has always been expressed through music or paint. I studied both in college and through workshops both locally and throughout the U.S.

I currently paint in acrylic but one will easily see the influence of watercolor in my art. Texture is a significant characteristic in my various pieces. I enjoy the unexpected merging of colors over the various surfaces. The contrast of texture and smooth surface reminds me of the difficulties and joys we encounter in life and the surprises along the way.

I am drawn to color as it expresses the emotions and experiences I feel at the time of a painting. It is often difficult for me to title paintings because each viewer sees according to their own life story. I hope my art plants the seed for exploration.. As much as possible a title gives a clue as to my inspiration and experience.

I have been published in Watercolor Magic magazine and honored to have been the guest artist in California Senator Michael Machado’s offices in 2007. In 2009 Gregory Kondos honored my paintings “Bridge” and “Balancing” with Awards of Excellence at the 54th International Open Exhibition “Bold Expressions” at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. My artwork is in the permanent collection of the City of Elk Grove and numerous corporate and private collections.

I am happy to be involved in my community through the KVIE Art Auction and the non-profit organization Elk Grove Artists. I was honored to be a part of Fe Gallery’s Multiple Sclerosis Society fundraiser in 2010. I am a former board member of the Watercolorists of Sacramento Horizons (WASH) at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. I am past president of Elk Grove Artists, and I have chaired the annual High School Art Contest. You may also find my artwork at Blue Moon Gallery in Sacramento and my website www.dtschida.com.
